Biography

Beth Reingold is Associate Professor of Political Science and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Emory University. She received her BA in Political Science and History from Rice University in Houston, Texas, and her MA and PhD in Political Science from the University of California at Berkeley.

Professor Reingold is the author of Representing Women: Sex, Gender, and Legislative Behavior in Arizona and California (University of North Carolina Press) and the editor of Legislative Women: Getting Elected, Getting Ahead (Lynne Rienner Publishers). Her research on gender, race, and the politics of representation and identity in the U.S. has appeared in numerous peer-reviewed journals, including the American Journal of Political Science, Social Forces, The Journal of Politics, Legislative Studies Quarterly, Political Research Quarterly, Politics & Gender, Journal of Women, Politics & Policy, and State Politics & Policy Quarterly. Her current research focuses on American state legislatures to examine: the intersections of race and gender in representational (electoral and policymaking) processes and outcomes; gender-race inequalities and biases in legislative leadership selection; anti-feminist (anti-abortion rights) agenda-setting and women’s representation; and the interracial dynamics of immigration politics and policymaking.
